How to Convert an Image to PDF on Any Device
Step-by-step ways to turn a JPG or PNG into a PDF on Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android or in your browser.
You need a PDF when a website, school or office will not accept a photo, or when you want several pictures in one tidy file. Here are the quickest ways to do it on each device.
In your browser (any device)
- Open the image to PDF converter and choose your image.
- Pick a page size. "Same as image" leaves the picture untouched, while A4 or US Letter suits documents you plan to print.
- Click Convert to PDF and the file downloads to your device.
Nothing is uploaded, so this is a sensible choice for IDs, contracts and other private documents.
On Windows
Open the image in the Photos app, choose Print, pick Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer and save. Menu names vary a little between Windows versions.
On a Mac
Open the image in Preview, then choose File and Export as PDF. Print followed by Save as PDF also works.
On an iPhone
Open the photo, tap Share, then Print. Pinch outward on the small preview to open it full size, tap Share again and save the PDF to Files. The pinch gesture is easy to miss.
On Android
In many apps, such as Chrome or Files, you can choose Print and then Save as PDF. The exact menu depends on your phone and app.
Tips for a better PDF
- Crop and straighten the photo first so the page is not full of empty table or floor.
- Photograph documents in good light with the camera directly above the page.
- Use A4 or Letter for anything that will be printed, and "Same as image" for anything read on screen.
